Day by Day

Day 1

Overnight: Lisbon

Arrive in Lisbon. Group Transfer to hotel. Lunch on your own. The tour coordinator will greet everyone and we will review the program schedule, emergency procedures and answer questions. After orientation, we will set out with our tour coordinator to take a walk and explore the area around the hotel. Then, we´ll enjoy a welcome dinner with a delicious set menu.

Day 2

Overnight: Lisbon

After breakfast we will take a private bus for a panoramic tour of Lisbon during which we will see the Marques de Pombal Square, Belem Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries. We will visit Jerónimos Monastery, UNESCO World Heritage Site, the main example of Manueline architecture in Portugal and a tribute to the golden age of discovery. Following lunch at a local restaurant, we will have the rest of the day free. Dinner on your own.

Day 3

Overnight: Fatima

Breakfast at hotel. After checkout, we will take a  private bus to Fatima. On route, we will stop at Santarem, also known as the gothic capital of Portugal, where we will visit the Holy Miracle Church and St. Mary of Grace Church, full of history related to the discovery of Brazil. After lunch on our own, we will continue to Fatima. Upon arrival, after checking in at the hotel and settling in, we will visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima. This Marian pilgrimage center evokes the apparition of the Virgin Mary to the three young shepherds, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta, which took place in 1917 and was recognized in 1930. We will have a group dinner at the hotel.

Day 4

Overnight: Fatima

Breakfast at hotel. We will depart from the hotel for a half-day field trip to Aljustrel, Valhinos and Ourem. Once in the village where the three shepherds, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta, grew up, we will learn the story of these children and how the Virgin of Fatima appeared to them. In addition, we will learn all about the traditions of the early twentieth century at the House-Museum of Aljustrel. We will continue to Valinhos, where we will see the Way of the Cross of Fatima with its Angel of Peace and learn about the enigmatic history that dates back to 1917.

Afterwards, we will take a private bus to Ourém, where we will visit the Castelo de Ourém and its medieval old town. We will return to Fatima in the late morning. Lunch on own. We will have a free afternoon to pack, explore or just relax. Dinner on own.

Day 5

Overnight: Salamanca

Breakfast at hotel. We will be transferred by private bus to Salamanca. Upon arrival, after checking in at the hotel and settling in, we will have lunch. In the afternoon, a local expert will take us on a fantastic walk to discover the hidden corners and historical buildings of this UNESCO Heritage Site and we will visit the New Cathedral and the University of Salamanca. The New Cathedral is one of Salamanca’s two cathedrals and was built between the 16th and 18th centuries with late Gothic and Baroque architectural styles. The University of Salamanca was founded by Alfonso IX in 1218 and it is the oldest university in Spain. Dinner on own.

Day 6

Overnight: Burgos

Breakfast at hotel. After checkout, we will be transferred by private bus to Burgos. On route, we will stop in Avila, where we will enjoy a walk during which we will visit one of the best-preserved city walls in the world. We will also visit the Convent of Santa Teresa. In this historic building we will visit the relics room and learn about the history of Santa Teresa, one of the main figures of Spanish mysticism along with San Juan de la Cruz. Free time for lunch. After lunch, we will continue on to Burgos, where we expect to arrive by late afternoon. Check-in at the hotel. Dinner on own.

Day 7

Overnight: Zaragoza

After breakfast, we will visit the Gothic Cathedral, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of the most representative Cathedrals in the country. Afterwards, we will enjoy some free time to explore and have lunch. Then, we will begin our transfer to Zaragoza, where we expect to arrive late afternoon. After checking in at the hotel and settling in, we will enjoy a delicious dinner.

Day 8

Overnight: Zaragoza

Breakfast at hotel. We will depart for a walk with a local expert and we will visit The Pilar Basilica, one of the most important Marian sanctuaries in the world. We will also go up the panoramic elevator of one of its towers and we will be able to contemplate a 360º view of Zaragoza. We will have the rest of the day free to explore the city; your tour coordinator will be happy to offer suggestions.

Day 9

Overnight: Lourdes

After check-out we’ll be transferred by private bus to Lourdes. After checking in at the hotel and settling in, we will have lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a guided tour of the old town of Lourdes. As we walk, we will learn the story of Bernadette Soubirous, a nun who witnessed Marian apparitions in the 19th century, and continue to the Sanctuary of Lourdes. This pilgrimage center is a large monumental complex made up of three main basilicas which we will visit. Then, we will go to the Grotto of Massabielle: the grotto where, according to tradition, Bernadette Soubirous saw the Virgin Mary. Next to the grotto there are fountains where we will be able to drink the famous water of Lourdes, to which healing properties are attributed. Dinner on own.

Day 10

Overnight: Lourdes

Breakfast at hotel. We will have the day free to explore; the tour coordinator will be happy to offer suggestions. 

Day 11

Overnight: Barcelona

After checkout, we will take a private bus to Barcelona. En route, we will stop in Carcassonne, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. During our walk, we will learn more about the Cathar past of this city and we will visit its castle. Then, we will enjoy some free time for lunch. After lunch, we will continue to Barcelona. We expect to arrive late afternoon. After checking in at the hotel and settling in, we will enjoy a delicious dinner.

Day 12

Overnight: Barcelona

Breakfast at hotel. We will set out with a local expert for a day trip to the mountain of Montserrat. During this day trip we will learn about the history of the Basílica and Museum and we will see its most precious object, the 12th-century carving of a Black Madonna, Our Lady of Montserrat, Patron Saint of Catalonia. In the afternoon, we will return to Barcelona to pack and have our farewell dinner.

Day 13

Transfer to the airport at a designated time.
