Day by Day

Day 1

Overnight: San Juan

The tour coordinator will welcome you and we will go over the program schedule, emergency procedures and answer any questions. After the orientation, we will go out with our group leader for a walk and explore the area around the hotel. At a local restaurant, we will enjoy a delicious menu as a welcome dinner.

Day 2

Overnight: San Juan

Breakfast at the Hotel. We will depart in our private bus to Old San Juan, the downtown, where we will meet our local expert who will guide us through the main points of the city. We will end our journey at the San Cristobal Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a true testimony of the beautiful history of Puerto Rico and one of the most recognized landmarks of the island.

After the lunch break, we will move on to attend a presentation by an expert historian on the history and identity of Puerto Rico.

Day 3

Overnight: San Juan

Breakfast at the Hotel. We will drive to El Yunque National Forest, the only rainforest in the national forest system. With almost 29,000 acres, it is one of the smallest in size, but one of the most biologically diverse. Breathtaking scenery, clear mountain rivers and outdoor recreation on a short hike, along with other picturesque waterfalls throughout the island that visitors can also visit. Hike to the waterfalls, disconnect from the rest of the world for a couple of hours, take in the view, and enjoy your surroundings.

After this adventure, we will participate in one of the most memorable experiences of the trip while learning about the African legacy in Puerto Rico: we will learn to dance bomba y plena, an Afro-Caribbean dance style that caught on in Puerto Rico.

Day 4

Overnight: San Juan


Breakfast at the hotel. We will leave our hotel and transfer to the city of Fajardo, where we will take a ferry to the island of Culebra. Sparsely populated and surrounded by cays, this island is home to Playa Flamenco, a spectacle of white sand and turquoise waves. There we will enjoy the ocean until returning to San Juan

Day 5

Overnight: San Juan

After breakfast, we will depart by private bus to Casa Bacardí, where we will learn about the emblematic rum that is distilled in a beautiful building in Cataño. After this, we will go to our cooking class, where we will learn how to prepare the famous Puerto Rican dish
Mofongo and there we will enjoy our own creation for lunch.

Following lunch, we will continue our cultural route through the famous neighborhood of  la Perla, a poor area of San Juan. Located across the wall, where the seawaves break, this neighborhood has been the backdrop of several music videos. Currently, the community seeks to revive this area with a variety of murals and activities.  

Day 6

Overnight: Ponce

Breakfast at the hotel. We will depart in our private bus to the city of Ponce. On the way we will visit the coffee Hacienda La Pomarrosa. In the coffee tour, we will learn about the history of coffee and the steps that are followed to produce it on their plantation.  We will continue our route, and on the way we will enjoy a delicious menu in a Puerto Rican restaurant. 

We will arrive in the Villalba Region, center of the island, where we will enter the Toro Negro forest. A particularly picturesque area, with the road wrapped by a lush canopy of bamboo.

Finally we will arrive in Ponce, where we will check into our hotel.

Day 7

Overnight: Ponce

Breakfast at the hotel.  We will take a guided tour of the wonderful city of Ponce, known as “The Pearl of the South” is the second largest city in Puerto Rico after San Juan.  During the tour we will walk through the main points of the city such as the Lions Fountain or the Plaza de Las Delicias. We will visit the Puerto Rican Music Museum, with exhibits of Taino, Spanish and African musical instruments, which were used to play the musical genre danza, a favorite music of the Puerto Rican high society of the 19th century, as well as the bomba and plena styles.

After a break for lunch, we will continue to Serrallés Castle, a palace converted into a museum about the sugar industry and its impact on Puerto Rico’s economy.

Day 8

Overnight: San Juan

Breakfast at the Hotel. We will return to San Juan. On the way, we will stop at the municipality of Adjuntas to visit an important community self-management project, Casa Pueblo. Since 1980, this community has been working with the objective of appreciating and protecting the natural, cultural and human resources. 

Finally we will arrive in San Juan. Free time to pack, explore or rest.

In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner.

Day 9

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport at the designated time.

Our first stop will be the beautiful waterfalls of Río Tanama in Arecibo, where you will be immersed in nature at one of the island’s most striking waterfalls. This semi-adventure tour includes a short hike along the river to one of Puerto Rico’s hidden treasures: Playa Vega Baja in the scenic town of Vega Baja. This immense and remote beach is perfect for those wishing to rock-climb or just enjoy natural views, far from city crowds and other tourists. Last but not least, we will visit El Manantial de Tortuguero, a lovely natural pool surrounded by pristine, leafy landscapes and the songs of local bird species. This outing takes 5-6 hours, including travel time.
