Day 1

Overnight: Havana

Arrival in Havana and transfer to the hotel. The tour coordinator will greet everyone, and we will review the program schedule, emergency procedures, and answer questions. After orientation, we will set out with our tour coordinator to take a walk and explore the area around the hotel. At a restaurant, we will enjoy a delicious welcome dinner.

Day 2

Overnight: Havana

Breakfast at hotel. After breakfast, we will visit one of the main Santería neighborhoods in Havana, Cayo Hueso. An expert guide will show us the picturesque Hamel Alley and how the Cuban artist Salvador González Escalona created his Afro-Cuban style as a mix of surrealism, cubism, and abstract art. At the Alley, we will enjoy a live Rumba performance. Lunch at restaurant. After that, we will depart towards Old Havana, UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we will meet a local expert who will lead our walking tour around the area discovering the main colonial squares. Later, we will attend an incredible live music show where we will put into practice what we have learned about Cuban rhythms. Dinner at restaurant.

Day 3

Overnight: Havana

Breakfast at hotel. A local expert will join us for a presentation on Cuban History through one of the best ways to get to know Cuban idiosyncrasy: music and the different Cuban rhythms. After that, we will enjoy a visit to the Music Conservatory, a unique place in Havana, where we will discover a magnificent building and have the chance to exchange our experiences with local students. Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon, we will have our first rehearsal session with the students of the Conservatory. Dinner at restaurant.

Day 4

Overnight: Havana 

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, we will have a master class on Cuban music with local musicians. Then, we will visit the local group’s studio, with a showcase. Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon, we will have our group concert, which will take place later in the evening. Dinner at restaurant.

Day 5

Overnight: Havana 

Breakfast at hotel. We will depart to Matanzas, an important town not only for its important literary and musical legacy, but also for being the cradle of several Afro-Cuban religions. We will visit the San Severino Castle, a fortress where the Africans slaves disembarked in the XVIII century. Afterwards, we will have a walking tour around Matanzas, discovering the main points like the Vigía square, Sauto Theatre, Ediciones Vigía (unique publishing house founded in 1985) and the Triolet pharmacy, first founded in Latin America. Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon, we will return to Havana. Dinner at restaurant.

Day 6

Overnight: Havana 

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, we will visit Abdala recording studio, where we will have the chance to meet local specialists and musicians. There we will enjoy their facilities to carry out the rehearsals with the students of the conservatory. After lunch, we will have the recording session. Dinner at restaurant.

Day 7

Overnight: Havana 

Breakfast at hotel. We will spend the morning at ISA, The Higher Institute for The Arts, the most prestigious art institute in Cuba where a local expert will guide us through, while enjoying an artistic environment. Then, we will have a private curatorial tour of Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC), a large interdisciplinary creative laboratory that exhibits the best of contemporary Cuban art, with a social and community focus. An old oil factory transformed into a space that opens up to the exchange between the various artistic threads that coexist in the same building. Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon, we will have a rehearsal session with the Conservatory students. Finally, we will enjoy a delicious Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 8

Overnight: Havana 

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, we will enjoy our last rehearsal session with the Conservatory students. Lunch at restaurant. After that, we will have the most memorable experience of the trip: a joint group concert with the Conservatory students. Then, we will relax with a group dinner.

Day 9

Breakfast at hotel. Pick up and transfer to the airport at a designated time.

Enjoy a dance show at the Grand Alicia Alonso Theater. The majestic building has a neoclassical style and today it’s the headquarters of the Cuban National Ballet. The current programming holds plays from operas, zarzuelas, operettas to concerts. As well as Spanish Ballet from Cuba and the Center for the Promotion of Dance. Note: The dress code must be followed (semi-formal)

Visit a Santero or Babalawo

Dig deeper into Cuban Santería and experience the magic knowing a Babalawo or Santero, the priests in the Yoruba Religion. Make a Spiritual consultation and live the sensations to participate in a ritual.
