A combination of lectures and excursions provide different perspectives from Cuban historians, architects, and local artists, mixed with guided visits in Old Havana, historical museums, historical sites, art studios and schools, music, theater, dance, and food. Feel Cuba’s vibrant social and cultural life visiting colonial cities such as Trinidad and Cienfuegos, and Las Terrazas, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with an ecological community. Day by Day

Day 1

Overnight: Havana

The tour coordinator will greet everyone, and we will review the program schedule, emergency procedures and answer questions. After orientation we will set out with our tour coordinator to take a walk and explore the area around the hotel. At a restaurant, we will enjoy a welcome dinner with a delicious set menu.

Day 2

Overnight: Havana

Breakfast at the hotel. We will depart from the hotel by private bus towards Old Havana to meet a local expert who will lead a walking architecture tour of the area. We will continue visiting the Museum of The Revolution where we will learn about the history of Cuba from the early 1960s to the present time. In the afternoon a local expert will join us for a presentation on Cuban History through one of the best ways to get to know Cuban idiosyncrasy: music and the different Cuban rhythms.

Day 3

Overnight: Trinidad

Breakfast at the hotel. We will take a private bus to Trinidad, UNESCO World Heritage Site. After check -in at the hotel and a brief welcome, we will visit downtown discovering the architectural value and heritage of this amazing colonial city founded in 1514. We will visit the Architecture Museum exhibiting the high-class architecture from the XVIII to XIX century.

Day 4

Overnight:  Trinidad

Breakfast at the hotel. We will depart to The Valle de Los Ingenios, where we will make our first stop at its incredible lookout, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the valley which is now a World Heritage Site. You will learn about Cuba’s sugar industry through the many old sugar cane mills, plantation houses, and barracks. Afterwards, we’ll visit San Isidro de los Destiladeros, probably the last example of the many archaeological sites found in the valley. Finally, we will visit Manaca-Iznaga town with its famous Tower and local artisans.

Optional: Climb to the Manaca Iznaga Tower, old vigilance tower used to control slaves where you can also enjoy amazing views. 

After lunch, we will visit a local pottery workshop where craftsmen produce typical classical pieces that characterize the city of Trinidad.   

To finish our stay in this marvelous city, we will assist a live music and dance show at the Escalinata music house. 

Day 5

Overnight: Havana

Breakfast at the hotel. We will depart to Cienfuegos,UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will then take a walking tour around downtown that will give us a perspective of the French spirit that remains. There, we will visit the Tomás Terry Theatre, an impressive theatre with French and Italian influences.

Afterwards, return to Havana.

Day 6

Overnight: Havana

After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart to San Francisco de Paula neighborhood and visit Finca Vigía, the famous house of Ernest Hemingway. Enjoy this house-museum where you will get the sensation that time has stopped, finding everything exactly as if Hemingway had left yesterday!

In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore on your own.

Afterwards, we will enjoy a dance show at the Alicia Alonso Theater.

Day 7

Overnight: Havana

Breakfast at the hotel. We will spend the morning at ISA, The Higher Institute for The Arts, the most prestigious art institute in Cuba where a local expert will guide us through, while enjoying an artistic environment.  Afterwards, we will visit the magnificent José Fuster Art Studio, better known as Fusterlandia, a project that was born more than 20 years ago, where his work is spread throughout the neighborhood through a collection of beautiful tiles, transforming the area from a run-down fishing village into a work of art.

In the afternoon you will have free time to explore on your own.

Day 8

Overnight: Havana

Breakfast at the hotel. The ecological community, The Terrazas, is a UNESCO biosphere natural reserve with a dynamic artistic community. There, we will visit the Cafetal Buenavista, Cuba’s oldest coffee plantation, built in 1801 by French refugees from Haiti.  

We will take a walk through the community and visit its small Ecological Museum that gives an overview of the community’s short history. 

We will have lunch at an open-air restaurant close to the refreshing San Juan river, where due to its cleanness, you may go for a swim if you wish!

Return to Havana.

Day 9

Overnight: Havana

Breakfast at the hotel. We will enjoy the morning at the Fine Arts Museum where we will have a guided tour with expert around the national gallery.

Afterwards, we will continue with an expert-led walk around Cayo Hueso, a neighborhood well known for its Santería tradition where we will learn about Afro-Cuban religion. Later on, we will enjoy a dance live show in the famous Hamel Alley.

Day 10

Overnight: Havana

Breakfast at the hotel. We will visit the Colón Cemetery, considered to be the biggest cemetery of the Americas and a National Monument. Discover this site, famous for its religious iconography and marble statues. Resting on these grounds, we will find Illustrious figures such as Máximo Gómez Major (independence leader), Alejo Carpentier (novelist)or Carlos Finlay (scientist).

Afterwards, we will visit the San José warehouse which is located in the biggest craft market of Havana. Free afternoon to pack, explore or just relax.

Farewell dinner at a restaurant.

Day 11

Transfer to the airport at a designated time.

Inside the Ingenios Valley, the main point is Manaca Iznaga farm. Its tower, more than 40 meters in height, was used to guard the slaves. Today you can climb to the tower and enjoy amazing views over the wide Valley.
